Medicine Hat News The Rattlers Academy Soccer Club under-14 boys won their division at the Family Day Tournament in Edmonton this past weekend. Competing in the under-14 B pool, they beat the Edmonton West Warriors and Edmonton Sting by shutout scores of more than 5-0 (the tournament didn’t register the actual number of goals, only counting to a five-goal lead). Add to that a narrow 4-3 decision over the Calgary Destroyers 4-3 and they were able to take the top spot in the round robin format. Kain Simon’s five goals tied him for the tournament lead for the Medicine Hat-based club. Plenty of other RASC teams were in action on the weekend as well. The under-14 Tier 3 team won its first two games in Pool C, 2-0 over the Warriors and 7-5 over another Edmonton club. They fell 4-0 to Grande Prairie in Sunday’s finale, settling for silver. The under-14 Rattlers girls went 0-3. Also in Edmonton, the under-18 girls went 1-2, the under-16 boys went 0-3 and the under-15 girls finished with an 0-3-1 record. The under-12 boys went 2-0-1 in Pool A, but had to settle for third place on goals for and against, despite not playing the gold-winning team and having a better won-loss record than the second-place squad whom they tied. A Tier 3 Rattlers team went 1-1-1 and took silver in Pool B. Meanwhile in Red Deer, the Rattlers under-17 and under-18 boys teams duked it out in another Family Day tournament. No scores were reported but the under-17’s won gold and the under-18’s silver. They’ve followed similar paths this year, the under-18 team taking silver at the Anthem United Communities Cup in Okotoks in January and the under-17’s right behind with bronze. 12
