A southern Alberta man pled guilty Thursday to multiple property-related crimes.

Appearing at the Medicine Hat Courthouse by CCTV from the remand centre, Daniel James Chrysler was sentenced to a total of 134 days, granted 44 days credit for time served — and at defence counsel’s request will be allowed to serve the remaining 90 days on weekends.

Chrysler pled guilty to stealing an ATV, possessing a stolen vehicle, possessing property obtained by crime and also two failures to appear in court. The events surrounding these charges stem back to spring of last year.

On May 30, the Bow Island RCMP received a call about an ATV being stolen. CCTV footage showed a man and woman backing up a vehicle and loading up the ATV. The licence plate of the vehicle was visible, and so with help from Medicine Hat police, Chrysler and a woman were identified as the suspects and arrested.

Then, a civilian in Bow Island purchasing a quad from the two individuals suspecting it was stolen. This led to police again charging the duo, and a search warrant executed for their property.

Found on the property were four stolen licence plates and sets of documents belonging to others. Also found was a stolen vehicle with its ignition punched out.

During sentencing, it was noted Chrysler has a long record —one that stretches back over 25 years and includes multiple property-related crimes.

The sentence was a joint submission between Crown and defence.
