Homegrown talent, a country legend, and rock ‘n’ roll icons — that’s what is in store for this year’s Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede night shows.
High Valley and Corb Lund will be kicking everything off at the Stampede’s Wednesday evening show on July 25, followed by Tanya Tucker on the Thursday night, and Huey Lewis and the News wrapping everything up on Saturday.
“We really try hard to bring really exciting acts to Medicine Hat, acts that you don’t get to see just anywhere,” said night show chair Marni Elliott, during Tuesday morning’s announcement about this year’s entertainment.
High Valley and Corb Lund are both from Alberta, yet have never performed at Stampede before, she said.
“It’s just really exciting that Alberta is producing such great talent, and such exciting shows that we can have them on our stage here,” she said. “Both are really fun acts, both have a lot of energy and it should be a really fun night.”
The legendary Tanya Tucker then takes the stage Thursday.
“As far back as any of us can remember, she’s been part of the rodeo atmosphere, part of country music,” said Elliott. “She started singing when she was just a child herself. To have her on our stage is just fabulous. Her show is very exciting as well, and what more can you say about her? She’s just a legend.”
Wrapping up the Stampede is Huey Lewis and the News — now entering their 39th year together — and which also promises to be an exciting show.
“They have a nine piece band that they bring with them, it includes a horn section. It’s a show that’s big, it’s exciting, it’s a pop-rock type atmosphere that everybody can enjoy,” said Elliott.
Night show packages and tickets officially go on sale Feb. 8 at 10 a.m.
