Sentencing moved for woman who no-showed

A new sentencing date for serious drug charges has been set in 2018 for a Maple Creek woman who skipped out on the original date.

Siofean Coderre, 43, appeared in custody and in person Tuesday at the Medicine Hat Courthouse, with new defence counsel requesting an adjournment to Feb. 27 so a pre-sentencing and Gladue report can be prepared.

The woman was arrested following a May drug bust, where police say $33,000 in methamphetamine was seized in Medicine Hat. Coderre entered guilty pleas in July, requesting a pre-sentencing report, and was granted release on $1,000 cash bail until a sentencing in October.

She was a no-show for this sentencing —causing her counsel at the time to come off the record and a warrant being issued for her arrest. She was then arrested in St. Albert in October.

Coderre had entered guilty pleas to one count of trafficking, one count of possessing the proceeds of crimes, and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Similarly, Coderre’s co-accused Paul Rasmussen also entered guilty pleas in September to drug trafficking and firearm charges and was granted release until sentencing in October.

The 45-year-old Red Deer man also failed to show for sentencing, and was eventually arrested three provinces over on Nov. 5 by the Dryden detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.
