The Lindsay Thurber Raiders celebrated like champions on Saturday night at Hat High.
The Red Deer-based Raiders rallied for a four-set victory over Calgary’s Western Canada Redhawks to clinch the Alberta Schools Athletics Association 4A girls volleyball championship in front of a packed house.
The Harry Ainlay Titans took home the 4A boys championship after taking down the Jasper Place Rebels in the final.
The Kwahommies rounded up their tournament with a pair of losses to the Chinook and Centennial to finish eighth in the field of 12, while the Mohawks took 12th following a loss to Charles Spencer Saturday.
Over in Sylvan Lake, the Eagle Butte Talons battled their way to the quarter-finals before finally having their hopes dashed by Lethbridge Collegiate in two sets, 25-21, 25-18. The Talons went 4-1 in round robin play to finish second in their pool after defeating Strathmore, HJ Cody and Bowness in straight sets, Edmonton Christian in three and falling to eventual champion St. Joseph’s in two.
