George Davison School students wrapped up Bullying Awareness Week activities with a heartfelt rally for world peace on Friday.

Students brought attention each day throughout the week to different social issues and problems by wearing specific colours. On Monday, students wore blue to bring attention to diabetes and other disabilities people have in the school community.

Tuesday was purple day, which brought attention to the issue of cyber-bullying. Wednesday was green to help students to reflect on the importance of protecting the environment.

Thursday was pink, which drew attention to bullying and the prevention of bullying. On Friday all students wore white for the world peace rally.

“Thank you to all the people who participated every day and wore the assigned colour,” said Grade 6 student Caitlin Campbell, who acted as one of two emcees for the rally. “Each colour represented a different theme for an issue facing our world.”

Campbell had students at the rally make a C-shape with their hand, and join it with another person beside them to form a heat.

“Look at how powerful we are when we come together,” Campbell said. “We see hearts, which represent peace, love and friendship.”

Co-emcee Jessica Duxbury, also a Grade 6 student, then tasked fellow students to take personal action to create a more peaceful world.

“Our challenge for you this weekend is to compliment at least five people,” she said. “And make sure you smile as much as you can, and do good for our community and world.”
