Society of Friends of the Monarch Theatre, which assists in the downtown landmark’s preservation, is hosting a wine tasting Christmas party fundraiser on Friday starting at 6 p.m.
Judy Morris, the society’s past president and founder, said the event is intended to host other downtown businesses, but is also open to the general public.
“The idea is for small businesses downtown to buy tickets for their staff, because they’re not expensive, and that way contributing to a Christmas party for their staff,” she said.
“There are lots of small companies downtown, or anywhere, that can’t afford to put on a big show, so we do it for them.”
The party includes wine samples, food, a cash bar, a silent auction and live jazz band.
It will take place at the Cellar at Beveridge Landmark Events, a room designed to resemble a European wine cellar.
Proceeds go toward assisting the Monarch’s ongoing capital projects.
Morris said upcoming projects include repairing the brick on the theatre’s back wall and a replacement for the leaking roof.
In the past, the society bought the theatre its digital projector and sound system, as well as heating and air conditioning, through its fundraising activities.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by calling Bruce Shepard at 403-527-5440.
