A Medicine Hat male was sent to hospital following a basement fire on Cameron Road on Thursday morning.
Fire crews from three stations were dispatched to the address shortly after 9 a.m., arriving just as the resident was coming out, said deputy fire chief Lance Purcell.
He said a fire in the basement was brought quickly under control, but the house was badly damaged.
The person was taken to hospital by ambulance. His condition was not known by press time.
