Medicine Hat police are confirming they have two suspects in custody following reports of a hatchet attack near the downtown Tim Horton’s late Wednesday afternoon.

“We had a witness and on video of a female in possession of a hatchet, and another male, chasing a victim male with the weapon in hand,” stated S-Sgt. Mark Fentiman. “We deployed units to that area, but while we were searching for them we got a report of suspected break and enter into another address in the downtown area that may involve the same people. We ended up surrounding this apartment building, and called people out from the suite.”

Officers were able to establish the two suspects in the break and enter were the same involved in the hatchet situation after entering the suite. Fentiman confirmed alcohol and drugs were likely a factor in the situation and charges would be laid against the two Thursday.

“The two suspects are both in custody, and the investigation is going to continue,” he said. “But there is obviously no danger to the public from these two individuals at this point in time.”
