Bail was denied Thursday to a man arrested alongside three others at the end of September following a drug trafficking investigation by police.
Judge F.C. Fisher sided with the Crown in denying release to Ashley Glendon Gackle, 40, who faces one count of possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
It’s a turnaround from June when Gackle was granted release on $3,000 no cash bail following his arrest with several others from a separate police investigation where $10,000 in drugs were seized, including meth, heroin, cocaine and marijuana.
For these, Gackle had entered not-guilty pleas to charges of trafficking a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking in August, with a trial date set for Jan. 24. Gackle has no criminal record.
Two others arrested during the September investigation also had court appearances Thursday.
Chad Cyr faces a charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon, simple possession. His next appearance is Oct. 10, and he remains in custody.
Tameka Hazelaar has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, simple possession and unlawfully possessing identity documents. Hazelaar remains in custody, with her next court appearance set for Oct. 31.
Also arrested and charged, but granted bail was Jason Tremblay. His next court appearance for these charges will be on Oct. 26.
Tremblay also has a court date for Oct. 10, to set a trial date for accusations of fentanyl trafficking that reach back to 2014 when police seized more than 800 fentanyl pills.
During the original trial, Tremblay was found not guilty of trafficking, and instead guilty of simple possession, and he was sentenced to one year in jail. The Alberta Court of Appeal ordered a new trial in a June ruling.
