Hatter charged after attempted carjacking

A 26-year-old Medicine Hat man is facing robbery and weapon charges after an incident on the evening of Oct. 3 in Riverside.

A motorist was stopped in front of a residence on Second Street NE when he was approached by male asking for a ride. When the driver refused the man pulled out what appeared to be a pistol and demanded the driver get out of the vehicle. The driver sped away quickly.

Soon after the male suspect was located by city police officers. The man was taken into custody and found in possession of a pellet gun.

The man is awaiting a bail hearing and faces charges of robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of stolen property.
