A comment submitted for publication in the News ‘Ticked Off and Tickled Pink’ section questioned whether Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH) is doing any recycling.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says is committed to responsible and sustainable waste management and recognizes the importance of developing an effective and integrated system to reduce our impact on the environment and work towards becoming a leader in waste management. “We work collaboratively with all internal and external stakeholders to improve the system on a continual basis,” said an AHS spokesperson. “AHS is committed to responsible and sustainable waste management and has a variety of recycling programs in place at many facilities across the province.”

All AHS employees are responsible for properly disposing of waste materials, which includes correct sorting, discarding, storing and handling it safely, said the spokesperson.

At MHRH there are a variety of programs in place for beverage containers, cardboard, plastic and paper.

“AHS has recycling information and toolkits available on our internal website for staff including learning modules for general waste management and recyclable materials,” said the spokesperson. “We are working to improve our recycling efforts where necessary and will continue to work with internal stakeholders as well as our waste management contracted vendors to set up sustainable recycling programs.”
