It’s back and it’s promising to be dripping with butter.
The Echodale Corn Roast is set for Sunday following a year off last year when the annual event and fundraiser at the farm was called off.
This year organizers are welcoming everyone back to the event that runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We’re absolutely excited,” said Connie Lole, who operates the farm at the regional park. “It’s such an institution. It’s been done for 30 years since the Echo Dale Farm society started it.
“That tradition carries on.”
The 2016 event was called off at the end of a summer that featured unpredictable weather, heavy rains and standing water in the area that contributed to a heavy presence of mosquitoes.
Conditions this year however, are considered perfect by organizers. The weather forecast for Sunday predicts sunny skies and a high of 32 degrees.
The event will also feature live entertainment, pony rides and the usual accompaniment of animals at the farm. As well, the Woolfrey House at the site will be opened for tours.
This year the cost to attendees is $6 for two cobs of corn and a drink. Hotdogs are also available.
The event serves as a fundraiser with proceeds going toward the work of Happy Hooves Animal Sanctuary, which cares for rescued farm animals and has supplied the tenants for the Echodale Farm.
