Pair arrested in Medicine Hat for crime spree that started in Calgary

Two men are facing charges including possession of stolen property of $5,000 and possession of a weapon after a BMW reported stolen out of Calgary was found in Medicine Hat.

In the late afternoon of Aug. 19 city police located a black BMW convertible on Sixth Avenue S.W. and soon after the driver and passenger were arrested.  Earlier in the day MHPS received a report that the vehicle failed to stop for Brooks RCMP after an assault and another report that the vehicle was involved in a gas theft in Medicine Hat.

Stolen identification, stolen electronics, drugs and bear spray were found when the vehicle was searched. Most of the items are believed to be stolen from Calgary.

Benjamin Schneider, 31, of Medicine Hat and David Paul Dyck, 47, of Calgary, are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of a weapon, possession of break-in instruments, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance.

Schneider is in custody and due to appear in court on Aug. 22. Dyck has been released on bail and is due in court Sept. 5.
