Medicine Hat doctor charged with sexual assault

A Medicine Hat doctor is facing charges of sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a person with a disability.
Police began an investigation following an allegation of an assault occurring on an adult male patient during a walk-in medical appointment in June.
Dr. Ian Gebhardt, 55, has been released on bail and is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 14.
Investigators with the Medicine Hat Police Service are concerned there may be other victims in the community and ask anyone with information to contact them at 403-529-8481 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
A news conference will be held in the MHPS community board room at 10 a.m. today.
