As summer winds down, things are ramping up at Medicine Hat Musical Theatre.
The group recently announced its lineup for the 2017-18 season and tickets for the first show, “Sister Act,” go on sale Aug. 15. Opening night is Oct. 27
The fall show typically ends up being the biggest of the season in part because the summer allows more time to prepare for the heavy workload, explains Josh Krause, board member and longtime sound crew member.
The rest of the season’s lineup is a mix of musical and non-musical, comedy and drama.
“We try and get something for everybody out there,” says Krause.
And who can forget the annual panto just before Christmas? This year’s offering is “Robin Hood,” opening on Dec. 1. The pantos, best described as an over-the-top re-imagining of a familiar story, typically sell out just days after tickets go on sale.
“They’re interactive shows,” says Krause. “You can bring your kids and they don’t have to sit there and be quiet for two hours watching a performance. They’re supposed to laugh and cheer for the good guys and boo for the bad guys. It’s a family event that everybody loves.”
If you want to make sure you’re not left out of the panto or any of the other shows, MHMT has introduced a season ticket system this year. Purchasing a season ticket, on sale now, doesn’t guarantee you a seat but instead allows you to pick your seat and show two weeks before the tickets go on sale to the public. Krause adds the season ticket option also saves a few bucks for anyone planning to go to all five shows.
