Hatters should have no worries about swimming in the lake at Echo Dale Regional Park, say city officials and health inspectors.
A rumour this week about water quality at the man-made lake in west Medicine Hat raised concern and spurred calls to the media and city’s parks department.
A message from a Medicine Hat man, which has been shared thousands of times on social media, claims he became infected with ecoli after swimming at the lake and became violently ill.
He warns against letting children swim in the lake.
City officials say the water, which is treated, is tested several times each week and routine inspection shows the water is clean.
Officials with Alberta Health, which does the testing, says unless a health advisory has been issued —and none has — there is no reason for concern.
