1923 ~ OTTO HOFFMAN ~ 2017

It is with great sorrow that we, the family of Otto Reinhold Hoffman, announce his peaceful passing after a courageous but brief battle with cancer on Sunday, July 16th, 2017 at the age of 94 years. Otto leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Sandra (Robert) Tilleman and Karon (Doug) Weiss; five grandchildren, Scott, Colin (Laurel), Stephen, Kara and Michael (Jenn and her children, Aaron and Zachary); nine great-grandchildren, Curtis, Cara Lee, Emersen, Greyson, Zachery, Kimberley, Cassandra, Mack and Katelynn; numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; as well as Vi Brower’s family (especially Donna Butterwick and Billie-Sue Roth and their families). Otto was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (nee Irving) in 1986; his parents, Theodore and Mary Hoffman; brothers, Albert, Emil, Walter and Ernie; sisters, Alma Smith, Hilda Weir and Mary Schwabe; as well as his friend, Vi Brower. Otto had a fantastic memory and loved playing cards. Honoring Otto's wishes, a Graveside Service will be held at HILLSIDE CEMETERY, Gershaw Drive SW & 10 Avenue SW, on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Bredeson officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet inside the cemetery gates at 12:45 p.m. No funeral reception will be held. HUGH BEATON

13 September 1931 ~ 15 July 2017
Born and raised in Medicine Hat by Erna (Draudson) and J.R. (Jack) Beaton. In 1948, Hugh enlisted in the RCAF and became a flying instructor with the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He married Yvonne Clary on September 1, 1956. In 1966 Hugh earned a BSc in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco (Dean's List and Beta Gamma Sigma) and accepted membership in MENSA in 1970. He began a career in systems analysis in California and moved to Hawaii where he also acted as wage and salary negotiator for Castle and Cook. For five years he headed the Mensa society in Honolulu. Forever seeking new challenges, Hugh used his Realtor's license to successfully launch Harbor Realty. After retiring to Seattle, Hugh took a round-the-world cruise on a container ship. That led to a second trip to the smallest nation in the British Commonwealth, Tuvalu. While continuing to travel, Hugh lived in Calgary, Napa, Phoenix, back to Honolulu and Victoria before returning to his beloved Medicine Hat. He established the Hugh Campbell Beaton scholarship in Business Administration at Medicine Hat College. Hugh is the published author of "Animal Stories", his A to Z take on the secret lives of creatures. Predeceased by his parents and siblings: John Edward "Jack", Robert Malcolm "Bob" and B. Norene Beaton, while left to celebrate his life is sister Barbara Ross and the loving families of Jack and Bob. Throughout his life, Hugh was a kind and loving man. On Saturday, July 8, 2017, Mrs. Laura Schnerch of Strathmore, Alberta passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 60 years. She is survived by her husband, Alfred; two daughters, Jennifer (Patrick) Hausauer, Jackie Schnerch; one son, Ashley (Joyie) Schnerch; twelve grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three siblings, Debra, Tammy, Harvey; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
