1921 ~ DENIS JENKINS ~ 2017

Denis Fredrick Jenkins, loving husband of the late Elsie Jenkins (nee Luyten), passed away quietly on Tuesday, July 11th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Denis was born in Manchester, England on October 10th, 1921. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Alan of Manchester. He leaves to cherish his memory his nephew, Dave Luyten (Valerie) and children Susanne, Christi, Erin and Jennifer; his niece, Gwen Evjen and children Andrew and Dawnette; his nieces, Carol Herter and Elaine Romeike of Medicine Hat; as well as other nieces and nephews. Denis is also remembered by his sister-in-law, Linda Jenkins and her sons, Adam and Paul, all residing in England. Denis earned his degree from Manchester University in chemical engineering and then served in the Royal Navy during WWII in the Mediterranean Sea and later working in the Middle East as a chemist. He immigrated to Medicine Hat in 1953 to work at the Northwest Nitro Fertilizer Plant until his retirement. Denis married Elsie Luyten in 1957 and was an active member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church. He loved to read and would be the first in line waiting for the library doors to open in the morning. Denis spent many happy days at their cabin in Elkwater Lake and traveled extensively throughout his life. He was an avid supporter of his nieces endeavours, especially their musical accomplishments, even planning holidays around various world festivals. We will miss your vibrant approach to life, Uncle Denis, and that wonderful twinkle in your eye. We are blessed to have known you. DOIRON

Mr. Irvin Doiron passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, in High River, Alberta at the age of 70 years. He was predeceased by his parents, John Doiron in 2004, and Alice Doiron in 2005. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Jeff Doiron of Japan and John (Becky) Doiron of Vulcan, Alberta; two grandsons, Tyson and Barrett; two brothers, Cletus Doiron of Medicine Hat and Kent (Pam) Doiron of Strathmore; three sisters, Glenda (Brian) Bolger of Medicine Hat, Mae Bolger (Walter) of High River and Norma (Glen) Fuchs of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews and by the mother of his children Marie Doiron of Vulcan. Irvin came to Alberta at the age of 17 years from Prince Edward Island. He worked for the Wheat Pool in many towns throughout Southern Alberta. To every family there is a favorite aunt or uncle and Irvin was the one in our family. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and reliving the days when we were young and all the special times we had. Irvin was loved by everyone he knew and he loved everyone. GORDON

James Gordon passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Friday, July 7th, 2017. Born January 15, 1944 at Fenelon Falls, ON.
He was a retired Canadian Armed Forces Warrant Officer stationed in Ontario, Manitoba, Lahr Germany, Petawawa, New Brunswick, and Alberta. He also did 4 tours of duty as a peacekeeper in the Middle East. James enjoyed his military career and his times with his wife of 52 years.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Doiron); a daughter, Tara Gordon; a grandson, Jesse, whom Jim and Roberta brought up as their own; a granddaughter, Sophia; half-brothers and half-sisters: Lynn, Scott, Debbie and Gail and a loving aunt, Pat.
He was predeceased by his father, Don Gordon; mother, Viola Sommers; one half-brother, Neil.
According to his wishes, there will be no funeral service and no visitation. A later service will be held in Ontario.
In memory of James, a contribution to the oncology unit of the Dr. Georges-L Dumont UHC would be appreciated.

JEAN (McKENZIE) LOEWEN

1934 – 2017

Our Mom, Jean (McKenzie) Loewen, sadly passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017, while surrounded by the love of her family. She was predeceased by her first husband of 54 years, Glenn McKenzie and then met and married Glen Loewen in 2009. Over the past two years since her diagnosis of breast/bone cancer, Mom was grateful for the support and encouragement of family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Glen Loewen; three children, Lee (Judy) McKenzie, Cheryl (Sam) Gust and Dale (Kim) McKenzie. Jean is also adored by her three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Christy (Tom) Wilde, Keri Gust, Sam (Heather) Gust, Lachlan and Cait MacMillan, Reeve, Saige and Calli Wilde and Mack and Macy Gust. She will also be missed deeply by her three sisters whom she was very close to, Frances Hart, Bonnie Schlinker and Jackie (Dan) Sodero as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with her first husband, Glenn, Jean was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Hilda Hutchison, Bill and Emma McKenzie; brothers-in-law, Don Hart, Harris Pahl and Marvin Schlinker. Jean and her family enjoyed farming and ranching for many years raising Purebred Herefords and embracing the rural life, eventually retiring to town in 1998. She was very dedicated to her religion and friends at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. Private interment will take place prior to the service. KEIL

Richard Keil, formerly of Leader, Saskatchewan, passed away on July 2, 2017, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ellin; his children, Treena (Dave) Redman and KellyKeil (Tracy Rizzoli) ; his grandchildren, JayEllin St. Jacques, Austin Redman and Scott (Amber) Thome; great-granddaughter, Brie Thome and two step-great grandchildren, Jesse Brown-Holden and Cheyenne Brown-Holden; sisters-in-law, Alice Keil of Calgary, Loretta Shastal of Lethbridge, Doreen Harsch of Calgary, and brother-in-law, Roland (Sandi) Harsch of Abbotsford, BC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Emily Keil; his brothers, Walter and Edward, and his sister, Alice (Sis). Richard was born October 7, 1925, at Estuary, Saskatchewan. He married the love of his life, Ellin, on July 1, 1960, after which they moved back to the family farm. Before then, Richard worked for CP Rail and the Union Milk Company. For 30 years Richard was a councillor for the RM of Deerforks, never missing a meeting. He spent 16 years as a Trustee on the Western Senior Citizen’s Home Board of Directors and gave 34 years of service to the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Living only a few miles from the South Saskatchewan River, fishing was one of Richard’s favorite pastimes. During the winter months curling was his passion, belonging to both the Mendham and Leader Curling Clubs. He curled in many bonspiels and had the trophies as proof of his love and talent for the sport. He also enjoyed playing ball and played many games in the area. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane P. Andrus officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery. LYN FRANK USHER

1944 – 2017
Lyn passed away in Comox Valley Hospice at St. Joseph’s Hospital with his family by his side after a hard fight with cancer and diabetes on June 20, 2017. He entered The Royal Air Force between 1961 – 1972 serving in Aden, Cypress, and England, then worked in Zambia from 1972 – 1976, which he really enjoyed. Lyn went back to England and immigrated to Canada in 1979 with his son Andrew. In 1980, he owned a carpet shop for several years with his brother Alan, then he worked with Co-Operators Insurance moving to Courtenay in the early 90’s to operate his own office and retired in 2002. A few years later he started to visit with his son during the winter in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he met his wife Carmen. They spent their time between Courtenay and Puerto Vallarta until his illness prevented Lyn from travelling. Lyn kept active with his memberships with the 888 Wing, Royal Canadian Legion, RAOB and Mason’s.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank in 2005 and Helen in 2001 and is survived by his wife Carmen, children Andrew (Tami), Craig, Chris (Dori), granddaughter Allie, sister Maureen Thompson (Edward) and brother Alan as well as many nieces and nephews.
Donations made in Lyn’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated. Private family arrangements have been entrusted to Toneff Funeral Services.


RAYMOND SELENSKI

1944 ~ 2017
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Raymond Donald Selenski, beloved husband of Lorna Selenski, announce his passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the age of 73 years. Ray was born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan on May 22, 1944. He farmed at Mankota, Saskatchewan for most of his life before retiring to Medicine Hat in 2012. Ray was a devoted father and friend and was passionate about flying. Ray will be deeply missed by his wife, Lorna and children: daughter, Sherry (Marshall) Leader – grandson, Derick Leader, and son, Jason (Rachelle) Selenski; two sisters, Marlene (Bob) Turgeon and Elaine Corbin and a brother, Dennis (Donna) Selenski as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Veronica Selenski and a brother, David Selenski. Vigil Prayers will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, Alberta on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Father Albert Sayson celebrant.
