1950 ~ LORRAINE THERESIA STEINKE (NEE SCHMALTZ) ~ 2017
Lorraine passed away on July 7, 2017 with family at her side in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Philip Steinke; and her two children, Carmella (Dave) of Okotoks and Dustin (Sayler) of Medicine Hat. Lorraine was a proud and adoring grandma (Ma) to eight grandchildren – Lewis, Kensington, Reid, Jordan, Emily, Madison, Rylan, and Owen. Also left to fondly remember her are her brothers, Peter (Cindy) and Paul (Arlene); her sisters, Marlene (Jim), Micky (Kevin), Irene, and Annette (Frank); as well as countless nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Theresia Schmaltz; and her sister, Carol Audette. Lorraine was born on July 9, 1950 in Prelate, Saskatchewan. On July 18, 1970, she married Phil Steinke in Prelate and they raised their two children in Medicine Hat and Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, and then returned to Medicine Hat. Family was the most important thing to Lorraine, and she proudly announced that God put her on this earth to be a ‘Ma’. She enjoyed camping, family game nights, and watching her grandchildren excel in their many activities. She also loved traveling with her husband, with their most recent trip being to Nashville and Memphis where they were able to see all the musical sites. She loved to showcase her family, family activities, and their travel in her photo albums. Lorraine demonstrated her selflessness, positive-nature and amazing strength, right until the very end. Lorraine leaves a giant hole in the lives of those left behind. The family wishes to thank the amazing Palliative Care staff in Medicine Hat and the wonderful staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Center in Calgary. Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Rd SE, on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Philip Le, Celebrant. A private interment will be held by the family at a later date. JEAN (McKENZIE) LOEWEN
1934 – 2017
Our Mom, Jean (McKenzie) Loewen, sadly passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017, while surrounded by the love of her family. She was predeceased by her first husband of 54 years, Glenn McKenzie and then met and married Glen Loewen in 2009. Over the past two years since her diagnosis of breast/bone cancer, Mom was grateful for the support and encouragement of family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Glen Loewen; three children, Lee (Judy) McKenzie, Cheryl (Sam) Gust and Dale (Kim) McKenzie. Jean is also adored by her three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Christy (Tom) Wilde, Keri Gust, Sam (Heather) Gust, Lachlan and Cait MacMillan, Reeve, Saige and Calli Wilde and Mack and Macy Gust. She will also be missed deeply by her three sisters whom she was very close to, Frances Hart, Bonnie Schlinker and Jackie (Dan) Sodero as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with her first husband, Glenn, Jean was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Hilda Hutchison, Bill and Emma McKenzie; brothers-in-law, Don Hart, Harris Pahl and Marvin Schlinker. Jean and her family enjoyed farming and ranching for many years raising Purebred Herefords and embracing the rural life, eventually retiring to town in 1998. She was very dedicated to her religion and friends at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. Private interment will take place prior to the service. John was born to Jacob and Lydia Schmidt in Medicine Hat, AB, and spent his childhood on the farm in Manyberries, farming, riding and playing baseball. In 1963 John married Diane Stickel, and they went on to raise 4 kids of their own. John was predeceased by his parents and three of his sisters, Jacqueline Schmidt, Annie (John) Urichuk, and Shirley (Bill) Lawson. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane, their 4 children, Ron, Joyce, April, Trish (Stacy), 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Dorothy (Fred) Yanke and Ida (Larry) Ehnes. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Raymond Donald Selenski, beloved husband of Lorna Selenski, announce his passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the age of 73 years. Ray was born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan on May 22, 1944. He farmed at Mankota, Saskatchewan for most of his life before retiring to Medicine Hat in 2012. Ray was a devoted father and friend and was passionate about flying. Ray will be deeply missed by his wife, Lorna and children: daughter, Sherry (Marshall) Leader – grandson, Derick Leader, and son, Jason (Rachelle) Selenski; two sisters, Marlene (Bob) Turgeon and Elaine Corbin and a brother, Dennis (Donna) Selenski as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Veronica Selenski and a brother, David Selenski.
