JACOBER

“We know you are in a better place where there is no pain. You are at peace, we
understand that. We just wish it could be explained to our hearts.”

Ruben Reinhold Jacober passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday April 8, 2017, at the age of 83 years. He is the beloved husband of 53 years to Marjorie Jacober of Medicine Hat, and also leaves to cherish his memory two children, Maureen Fehr of Chestermere, Alberta, and Mark Jacober of Edmonton, Alberta; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn Fehr of Chestermere. He also says goodbye to two brothers, Harold (Erna) Jacober, and Elmer (Julie) Jacober and one sister, Evelyn Boettcher, all of Medicine Hat; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Julius and Bertha Jacober. Dad was born in Medicine Hat in 1934, and lived on the family farm near Schuler, Alberta until his high school years. He attended Medicine Hat High School until grade 11 and then started his career in the oil field in northern Alberta. He met Marjorie in 1961, and they married at Westminister United Church in October, 1963. Dad worked as a foreman at Medalta Potteries / IXL Brick until he could return to his first passion, the oilfield. He started with Olson Well Services in 1978, then moved on to Midwest Surveys as a Landman. In 1983, Dad co-founded Canadian Landmasters and served as the Vice-President until his retirement in 2001. In retirement, Mom and Dad spent summers at their cabin in Elkwater and winters at their home in Mesa, Arizona, where they made many friends. Dad loved nothing more than sitting down with an old – or new – friend and chatting over a beer or a game of gin rummy; he had a knack for making friends wherever he went. He loved all sports, especially hockey, curling, football and baseball. Dad’s other love was his garden; he took great pride in his tomatoes, cucumbers and potatoes. and revelled in sharing his crop with others. Dad’s generosity was evident to everyone who was lucky enough to meet him, he was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back and then go back into his closet and give you 5 more shirts. He also dearly loved his two grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn, and was so proud of their every accomplishment. He leaves behind in them knowing the true measure of a man. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Durand, Dr. Foley and the staff at the Medicine Hat Cancer Clinic for their support, kindness and caring during Dad’s struggle over the past few years. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, the family requests donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross Society c/o 398 Aberdeen Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 0R2; or to the Margery E.
