Man accused of setting grass fire near Gas City Campground will represent himself at trial

The case of a man charged with arson over grass fire in an open field by the Gas City Campground and Clarion Hotel will be going to trial.

Wesley Vanbocquestal, age 61, appeared in court on Thursday to set up a trial date of July 7 for charges of arson and possessing incendiary material. Vanbocquestal has no defence counsel.

The grass fire occurred on Feb. 18, just after 5 p.m., with emergency crews responding to the blaze to extinguish it. Police stated that no one was injured in the fire and none of the surrounding buildings were damaged.
