1930 ~ STEWART TORRIE ~ 2017 Stewart “Stew” George Torrie, beloved husband of Lillian Torrie of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Stew also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Doug (Anne) Torrie, Elaine Torrie, and Brenda (Aaron) Smith; five grandchildren, Michael (Laura), Kevin (Darci), Logan, Lindsey, and Sydney; five great- grandchildren, Brooke, Rylee, Rylan, Milo, and Nova; one brother, Bart Torrie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Stew was predeceased by his parents, George and Isabella Torrie; and three brothers. Stew was a teacher and Vice Principal with the Medicine Hat School District #76 for 32 years, where he was liked and respected by students and fellow teachers alike. Born and raised on a farm in Saskatchewan, Stew never lost his love for farming and raising stock. He did throughout most of his life. Stew as an active member and President of the Canadian Highland Cattle Association. He was on the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Board for many years, where he was in charge of both livestock and art exhibits. Stewart also enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, painting and sculpting. Stewart will be lovingly remembered by both family and friends for his great sense of humour and his infectious laugh. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Saturday March 11th, 2017 at the Chinook Village Terrace Room, 2801 – 13th Avenue SE. The celebration will begin with an open mike at 1:00 p.m. and luncheon to follow. Memorial gifts in Stews name may be made to the charity of one’s choice. 1944 ~ GEORGE ERRINGTON ~ 2017
George Earl Errington, beloved husband of Irene (Steier) Errington of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the age of 72 years after a courageous battle with lung cancer. George also leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Lisa (Kyle) Marfleet and their children, Sarah, Emily and Cameron of Red Deer, Alberta; his son, John (Kerri) Errington and their children, Alanna, Chantel, Erica and Joshua of Ottawa, Ontario; his sister, Dorothy Blue; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine (Jim) Hunt, Leroy Steier, Margaret (Denis) Duquette, Joan (Claude) Duquette, Alex (Connie) Steier, Debbie (Les) Brautigam; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Freda (Bradley) Errington; an infant brother, John; his sister, Jean Duncan; brothers-in-law, Gus Blue and Dennis Duncan; as well as his in-laws, Roy and Betty Steier.
George was born and raised in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. After high school, George's banking career started with the Bank of Montreal in Nipawin spanning posts in three provinces and retired with the Weyburn Credit Union. In 1987, George and Irene "semi-retired" to Courtenay, BC when they purchased the Anco Motel with their partners. In 1999, George and Irene retired to Medicine Hat. Over the years, George was active with Weyburn Kinsmen and K-40, Happy Hatter's and the Chartwell community, just to name a few. He especially enjoyed the Desert Aire community in Indio, CA that George and Irene called home every winter. George's network of friends encompassed any group or project he was involved with, and he enjoyed many.
The Funeral Service will be held at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Monday, March 6th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Philip Le, officiating. 1940 ~ 2017 Darlene Beatrice Offen, (nee James) cherished wife, mother and grandmother was peacefully called home to be with her Lord on March 1, 2017, at the age of 77 years. As sadness overwhelms us, we are comforted to know her earthly suffering is over. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Tom; children, Darin and the mother of his children, Zoe, Gigi and Jody (Penny); adored grandchildren, Kacie, Tionna, Tommy, Chelsey and Hayden; brothers, Terry (Florence) and Steve and sister, Karen (Louis) and their families. She was predeceased by a son, Ken in 2010, son-in-law, Wayne, her parents and brothers, Tom and Bob. Mom was born on February 17, 1940 in Wells, B.C. She spent her childhood years growing up in North Battleford, SK. She met and married Tom Offen in 1961. Their married life began in North Battleford, then Saskatoon, Coronach and Assiniboia, SK. Mom and Dad moved to Medicine Hat in 1996, where they have resided ever since. Mom endured many health challenges throughout the years. She tackled them with strength and a fierce determination. She never gave up, always trying to persevere with her sense of humor. Her deep faith in God the Father and her Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ, empowered her to realize that life was eternal. She is in the loving arms of Jesus now, and in that we take great comfort and encouragement. Nothing was more important to her than family. She gave of herself to her children and grandchildren her entire life. Her absolute favourite times were spent during holidays and gatherings surrounded by those she loved the most. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. As we lay her to rest, we will forever have memories in our hearts of a wonderful woman that taught us so much about giving and faith, about strength and courage. Rest well Mom and enjoy the peace of God that surpasses all understanding!
