Kick-off party announced for Hometown Hockey weekend

More plans have been announced for Medicine Hat’s Hometown Hockey weekend March 3-5.

The City of Medicine Hat will host a street party kick-off celebration March 3 from 5 p.m. to 1 am. on Second Street downtown. A street hockey rink, shooter skill pits, food trucks, a DJ are among the plans for the festivities.

The Beveridge Building will host a hockey and sports memorabilia show that will include the history of hockey in Medicine Hat, live music from local entertainers and food and refreshments. Across the street the Monarch Theatre will show two movies, and guests are encouraged to wear their favourite hockey jerseys, shirts and hats.

The Canalta Centre will get in on the action at 7 p.m., hosting a game between Medicine Hat Tigers alumni and members of the police and fire services of Medicine Hat. All-time leading goal scorer Kevin Riehl, Matt Keetley and Stefan Meyer are among those set to suit up for the Tigers team. The game is free and open to the public.

Back downtown at 11 p.m. fireworks will light up the sky.

The Hometown Hockey weekend officially starts on March 4 at noon with activities centred around the City Hall Plaza and culminating in the live broadcast hosted by Ron MacLean and Tara Slone on March 5.
