Two Medicine Hat men charged with second-degree murder

Second-degree murder charges have been laid against two Medicine Hat men following a weekend homicide.

Jacob Peter Porfoun and Aaron Raj Anand-Ford, both 21, were charged following the death of 24-year-old Dustin Edward Hewer.

Both remain in custody and will appear before provincial court on Nov. 8.

Medicine Hat’s second homicide of the year occurred on Nov. 5, when at 3:40 a.m. Medicine Hat police were called to the 500 block of 21 Street N.E., for report of a disturbance and an injured man.

Emergency responders transported Hewer to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. An autopsy in Calgary to find the preliminary cause of death and is expected to be completed today.

Police say that the individuals were all known to each other, although their exact relationship and how the events of the early morning unfolded are still under investigation, including collecting statements from witnesses. The crime scene on 21 Street N.E. was released by police, although two residences, one on 500 block of 21 Street N.E. and one on the 600 block of 20 Street N.E. are being held for examination.
