1927 ~ BAUMAN ~ 2016

Marion Bauman of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Bauman, passed away on Wednesday, October 19th, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Marion leaves to cherish her memory her children, Doug (Brenda) Bauman and Brenda (Russ) Farwell; one daughter-in-law, Milvia Bauman; six grandchildren, Julie (Matthew) Burbidge and their daughter Abigail, Scott Bauman (Andrea Romain), Matthew (Kyla) Bassard and their children Jackson and Gia, Megan Bauman, Kristine Farwell (Greg Parsons), and Steven Farwell; one sister, Shirley Dovell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her parents, Charles and Eleanor Grylls; her son, Brian Bauman; five brothers, Bill, Harold, Charles, Fred and Norman Grylls; and two sisters, Daisy McDonald and Mary McConnell. Marion was born on September 17th, 1927 at Saskatoon and grew up on the Crane Creek Farm near Cando, Saskatchewan. She rode a horse bareback three and a half miles to a one-room school until Grade 8, received some of her high school education by correspondence, and completed high school while living with her sister, Daisy, in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan. It was here that she met her lifelong friend, Eleanor Smith, who eventually was Marion’s maid of honour at her wedding. After high school, Marion moved to Saskatoon to live with her parents and attend Normal School (Teachers College). Upon graduation, she taught first at Blucher then Dundurn, Saskatchewan. During that time, Marion was introduced to a young man who was a friend of her brother, Fred. Sparks flew and Marion and Bill were married only a few months later on July 30th, 1949. Marion and Bill lived in Saskatoon until 1972 when they moved to Edmonton. In 1973, a business opportunity beckoned and they moved to Medicine Hat where they continued to reside until her passing. Marion was a forward-looking person, building strong ties with family and many friends throughout the years. She and Bill loved travelling all over the world as long as they weren’t away from the grandchildren for too long. Marion enjoyed flower gardening, needlepoint, knitting, cooking family meals, keeping up on current events, and especially playing cards. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights of her life and she was always excited to see them and to hear of their latest accomplishments. She spent her last five years at Chinook Village where she had several very special friends among residents and staff. Her playful sense of humour was always there, even through the pain of her last days. Marion will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all. Frank Lanz of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Lanz, passed away on Tuesday, October 18th, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Frank leaves to cherish his memory four children, David (Linda) Lanz, Marjorie (Ewen) Leroux, Paul (Anne) Lanz and Theresa Noble; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Loran, Carol Skidmore and Betty Trotter. Frank was predeceased by his son, Ronald Lanz; and his parents, David and Anna Lanz. Frank was born and raised in the Lancer, Saskatchewan area, where he grew up on the farm and attended school. Frank married Elizabeth “Betty” in December of 1952 and the couple later moved to Medicine Hat where they raised five children. He worked for the Department of Highways until his retirement. Frank enjoyed spending time with his family; he loved to play cards with his grandchildren and anyone who would play cards with him. As well as playing cards, Frank enjoyed fishing and dancing. The family would like to thank the staff at 5 west, as well as the OR staff for their excellent care; Dr. Michael Bering, Dr. Joqiat, Cathy, Lindsay, Bobbie and Ian. DONALD ALEXANDER

1924 ~ 2016

Mr. Donald Alexander passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at the age of 92 years. Along with his loving wife, Doreen Alexander, Don was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Barnabe. He will be remembered by his family, Judy (Dave) Beyea and family; Lynda (Jack) Dempsey and family; Raymond Barnabe and family; Wendy (Tom) Smith and family; Don Alexander; John (Margaret) Alexander and family as well as Kathy (Greg) Marsh. Don was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Army on the 9th of January, 1942, and served over seas until 1945. He also spent 18 months in the Korean War, from 1951 through 1952 and served a tour on a peace keeping mission to Egypt in 1978. Don was released from the Canadian Armed Forces after 33 years and 6 months of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf and watching hockey and football. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Monday, October 24, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend David Pollard officiating. Anne Marie Maier of Medicine Hat passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late David Maier. It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our brother, Michael, on October 10, 2016 in Victoria, BC, after a very long and hard battle with illness. He was predeceased by our mother, Barbara in April 2005; and our father, Arthur in February 2015. Michael is survived by his brother, David (Beverley) Jeggo; his sister, Katherine (Brooke) Culley; and sister, Karen Jeggo; four nephews, Dave Jeggo, Chris (Veronique) Jeggo. Joshua Jeggo. Hazel, beloved wife of the late Bert Moser passed away peacefully on October 18, 2016 at the age of 91 years.

Hazel was born on March 24, 1925 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. There, in 1949 she met and married the love of her life and best friend, Bert Lloyd Moser who sadly predeceased her in 1983. Bert’s work took them across the prairies including North Battleford, Calgary and Winnipeg. Together they made many friends, joining the local curling clubs and hosting bridge evenings. Long-time roots were set in Winnipeg where Hazel enjoyed the friendships, music and laughter of the Irish Club. Hazel had a full life raising children and grandchildren and loved nothing more than entertaining family and friends. She will be remembered by many as a devoted fan of every sport her grandchildren played, never missing a game.

Hazel was a devoted wife, mother and nana. She will be lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Judy; her daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and Mike Moug and her precious grandchildren, Diane, Karen and John.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, Joyce Millicent Woodruff (Bader) passed away peacefully in Kamloops, BC at the age of 82.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Woody, her daughters, Marilee (Greg), Marcia (Alan) and her grandsons, Jordan, Daren (Lexi) and Corey (Brooke), brother, Gerry, niece, Larinda and her children, Heather (Joel), Jeffery (Natalie), Haley (Kyle) and Hannah, as well as numerous family and friends.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Dick and Charlotte and her sister in law Phyllis.

Joyce was born on October 6, 1934, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Woody and Joyce were married in 1956 and settled in Victoria where Woody was in the Navy. They raised two daughters and then retired to Vernon and Kamloops to be closer to their grandchildren. Joyce was an avid sports fan and golfer, active in the BCLGA in her retirement. She was a wonderful piano player and singer and enjoyed taking part in the choir. She loved animals of all kinds but her main loves in life were her three grandchildren. She didn’t miss a single sports game that they played.

A Celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Gathering Place at Overlander Extended Care 953 Southill Street, Kamloops BC, with Celebrant Glen Peter officiating.
