1924 ~ RENWICK ~ 2016

Kenneth “Ken” Carl Renwick of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Marjorie Renwick, passed away on Thursday, May 12th, 2016 at the age of 91 years. Ken leaves to cherish his memory four children, Mickey (Bernice) Ash, Jack Renwick, both of Medicine Hat, Kelly Jane (Rusty) Townsend of Idaho, and Adrienne Duckering of Calgary; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie on February 17th, 2011; and his parents, Burt and Ida Renwick. Ken enjoyed golfing and loved to dance. BOETTCHER

Helen Boettcher of Medicine Hat passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at the age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late Jacob Boettcher. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Marilyn (Harvey) Roth of Burstall, Richard (Judy) Boettcher of Spruce Grove and Calvin (Dianne) Boettcher of Chestermere; seven grandchildren, Michael Roth, Cheryl (Ken) Przybilla, Dawn (Rodney) Howard, Blair (Nicole) Boettcher, Tamara (Steve) Maron, Jordan Boettcher and Carissa Boettcher (fiancé Darryl Kell); three great grandchildren, Amy, Kolten and Preston; one sister, Ella Eisenbarth of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Louise and William Kanewischer; her husband Jacob on October 17, 2003; three brothers, Rudolph Kanewischer, John Kanewischer and Art Kanewischer and two sisters, Tillie Raugust and Edna Raugust. Helen was born on April 6, 1924 on a farm near Hilda and was raised in the area. On November 21, 1943, she married Jacob Boettcher. They moved several times before finally settling down in the Schuler District where they began farming. Twelve years later, they moved to Burstall where Jacob became the custodian for the school. The family then moved to Lethbridge before retiring to Medicine Hat in the late ‘80’s. Helen was an excellent seamstress and loved spending time crocheting and knitting. The funeral service will be held in the Temple Baptist Church (606 7th Street SW) on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian J. Munro and Rev. Dr. Shane Andrus co-officiating. Family First…

It was just last Monday that family and friends gathered in Cook’s Chapel to honour the life of a remarkable lady, Freda Noble Lowe. Grandchildren, Jenelle and Judie, shared memories from the heart and Shaun offered a vocal tribute singing a special song for his Gramma… everyone present took a trip down memory lane as a video tribute of cherished memories was shared. Gerry sang “Ava Maria” and fellowship followed in the reception facility before family travelled to the Memory Gardens Cemetery where Freda was laid to rest. As part of this final farewell, flowers were placed at the grave representing each of the family members and their love for her!

MATYKA

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Matyka on May 12, 2016, at the age of 90 years. Anna leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters Anna Maria (Thomas) Moore, Elsa (Frank) Poch and Lisa Dunn as well as daughter-in-law Audrey Matyka Turnbull; her grandchildren, Ryan Matyka, Sabrina Moore, Justin, Allyssa and Mandy Matyka, Kody, Janaya and Darien Dunn, Samantha Poch and great- granddaughter, Kenzlie Matyka. She is also survived by her two brothers Hanz and Anton as well as numerous other relatives in Germany.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Franz and Maria Rab, her husband of many years, Walter, siblings Barbara, Elizabeth, Maria, George and Franz as well as two children, daughter Barbara in infancy and son John Matyka.

Mom was born December 9, 1925, in Budaors, Hungary. She had a happy upbringing until the German war when her and her family encountered terrifying circumstances which most couldn’t even imagine. But mom was born a fighter and persevered. In her adulthood, mom travelled to England where she met Walter Matyka, an equal match for her strong personality and stubbornness. They were married July 9, 1955, and immigrated that same year to Ravenscrag, Saskatchewan to begin their life on the farm. They later moved into Eastend, Saskatchewan while maintaining farm land just outside of town. Mom kept busy raising the kids, helping out on the farm, demonstrating her love of cooking by volunteering catering services at weddings and funerals as well as countless hours spent manicuring and perfecting her giant, beautiful garden that was the admiration of many. Mom had quite an obsession with food that many times we all found humorous as her meals were often discussed in detail and planned weeks in advance. However, we also appreciated the solemn significance of such after her surviving the war and often having to go without. This made the smile on her face after making a giant pot of “nookilay soup” all that much more meaningful and special. Mom wanted to ensure that all of her children and grandchildren never had to go without. She was one of the most giving people that you could ever encounter. As sweet as she was, she also had a very “spicy” side to her too. All who knew mom knew that she, very simply said, was born without a filter. She said what she meant and meant what she said. It was definitely a part of mom that we loved, you just never knew what you were going to get. She is going to be sorely missed by all who knew her.

At mom’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. A family memorial will be held at a later in date in Ravenscrag Saskatchewan.
