GEORGE HIRSCH

1927-2015
It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, George Hirsch of Medicine Hat, on Friday, October 23, 2015, at the age of 88 years, beloved husband of the late Ruth Hirsch. He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Stan and Heather Hirsch of Sherwood Park and their children Kimberley and Kerry. Sheri and Sheldon Brusky of Medicine Hat and their children Dayna (Ryan) Maloy (daughter, Emma who always made his eyes light up) and Jacie .One brother Ben (Doris) Hirsch of Calgary; two sisters Katherine (Frank) Schell of Medicine Hat and Lucy Grad of Regina; sister-in-law Rachel Phillipson of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth on December 23, 2005; his parents, Alaysia and Kasper Hirsch; one brother Kasper and one sister Anna Mary Bischoff.
Dad was born March 7, 1927, 5 miles SW of Leibenthal, Saskatchewan on the family farm. Dad worked at various jobs in his life including Medalta Potteries, and Goodyear where he retired. He was a quiet and very independent man and he quite liked it that way. He kept himself so busy that we could never get a hold of him until after supper. Dad loved his sports, especially hockey and baseball. He had great conversations with whoever he talked to about sports and it wasn’t odd if it went on for hours. His television was always tuned in to either Sportsnet or TSN, and when he would go over to various family members’ houses, he would always turn their television to sports as well. Dad also loved to read, go for coffee, visit, listen to gospel music and he loved his sweets. The best one of them all was going to the casinos. He didn’t miss too many Senior Tuesdays at the Lodge (free cookies and coffee). He had quite the sense of humour and always had some funny comment to say. Dad`s grandchildren were very special to him. He would phone them up and go out for lunches and when they were younger he would take them for slush’s and candy on Friday’s. He was really involved with their many activities and sporting events, wouldn’t miss any of them. He was there #1 fan.
You were very special to us Dad and we are going to miss you dearly. We love you with all our hearts.
