Bazil Gordon Bowes passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the age of 86 years, beloved husband of Catherine Bowes of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory four children, Sandra (Robert) Brown of Cromwell, New Zealand, Mary Jean (Barry) Thompson, Bob Bowes (Donna Pickford ), Joan (Brad) Cox all of Medicine Hat; ten grandchildren, Cathy (Ben), Mike (Michelle), Russell, David, Tanner, Greg, Jordan, Megan, Joel and Ben; four great grandchildren, William, Madison, Barrett and Blake. He was predeceased by his parents, Mabel and Allen Bowes; one daughter, Patti Bowes, one brother, Bill Bowes and one sister, Kay Ross. Bazil was born on September 21, 1927 in Tompkins, Saskatchewan where he was raised. In 1947, he moved to Medicine Hat and worked at Medalta Potteries for a short time. He then began his career at Dominion Glass where he worked for the next 30 years while still farming the family farm at Tompkins. He enjoyed camping, fishing and was an avid hunter. In his later years he greatly enjoyed reading, taking his grandchildren for long walks and watching his Blue Jays baseball games. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. with Fr. Tomy Manjaly officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. .Last week family and friends gathered in Cook’s Chapel to celebrate the life of an amazing lady, Dot Clift. Passionate and loving tributes from her daughter, Karen and sister, Diane were shared with everyone as they reminiscenced through events of her life. Celebrant Getz recalled the passion she shared for her family including the large extended family of foster children; truly the love of a devoted mother. The community at large benefitted from the many contributions Dot made over the years and the sports teams will miss the delicious cookies she made for them. Fellowship followed in the Cook Southland Reception Center where everyone continued to share their stories of a wonderful respected lady.

August 10, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Rose Eresman beloved wife of John Eresman of Calgary, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Calgary home on August 10, 2014 at the age of 84 years. Rose was born on October 28, 1929 in a sod hut near Krupp, Saskatchewan (Liebenthal/ Fox Valley District) where she grew up on the family farm. An intelligent woman keen on learning she left home to attend high school in the town of Richmound, where she stayed with her grandmother until graduating in 1947. In 1948, Rose married John Eresman and they began their 65 years together. In 1949, they moved to Medicine Hat. Rose worked a variety of jobs including the glass factory and greenhouses. Rose and John also farmed and ran a small grocery store in the mid-fifties. Rose went on to work as a housekeeperand forged friendships with her employers which were some of Medicine Hat’s most prominent families. Her final and most rewarding job was managing the Redi-Enterprises Bottle Depot where she became a surrogate mother to many of the handicapped people who worked there. She had a special place in her heart for two of the workers, Jimmy and Nelda, who lived with Rose and John for several years.
Rose loved to travel and was full of adventure. She organized many vacations for her family over the years. In retirement they moved to Sorrento, BC and wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Rose will be best remembered for her love of family, for being a wonderful host and making everyone welcome in her home as well as for being a great cook. She leaves a loving family including her husband John of 65 years and five children; Darlene (Harvey) Hittel, Cheryl (Jim) Freeman, Dale Eresman (Connie Zepick), Randy (Shelly) Eresman and Renee (Paul) Chateau, ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; and her two wonderful caregivers for the past several years, Joy and May. She is also survived by her sisters Rachel (Jack) Hellman, Clara Eresman, Veronica (Howard) Garner and her brother Ken (Donna) Schwengler. Rose was predeceased by her son Murray and brother Tony in 1960, and by her parents Mike and Jenny Schwengler Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 1566 Northmount Drive N.W. (corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive N.W., Calgary) on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road. S.E., Medicine Hat) on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Philip Le celebrant. A private family interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. .US Army Pfc. Lawrence S. Gordon
killed in action on August 13, 1944,
in France

Lawrence Samuel Gordon was born on June 26, 1916 to American parents, Sam and Ella Gordon. He had three brothers and one sister, and was raised in the small farming community of Eastend, Saskatchewan. As an adult Lawrence was a hardworking man and a very good horseman.
In 1941, Lawrence S. Gordon was working as a ranch-hand on the Mills Ranch just west of Casper, Wyoming. He came home for Christmas in 1941, weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and decided to join the US Army because he felt it was better equipped than the Canadian forces.
On January 24, 1942, Lawrence Gordon enlisted in the US Army. After basic training he was assigned to the Reconnaissance Company, 32nd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Division. He spent more than a year and a half training all over the United States. On September 5, 1943, Lawrence S. Gordon boarded the Cape Town Castle troop ship for England. After spending more than nine months in Codford, England preparations began for landing troops on Omaha Beach. On D+17, Pfc Gordon landed in France. Less than two months later he was killed on August 13, 1944, near Carrouges, France when the armored car he was riding in was hit by a German 88mm shell, killing him.
After being misidentified as a German soldier, Pfc Lawrence Gordon was interred at a Germany cemetery in Huisnes sur Mer, France. After painstaking private research and testing, Jed Henry and Gordon’s nephew, Lawrence R. Gordon, located and identified the remains of Pfc. Lawrence Gordon.
On June 10, 2014, the German War Graves Commission transferred stewardship of the remains to his nephew Lawrence R. Gordon.
The final journey to return Pfc Lawrence Gordon to his birthplace in Eastend, Saskatchewan will take place on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, leaving the Pattison Funeral Home, in Medicine Hatat 9:00 a.m. traveling in procession to the Eastend Memorial Hall for ceremonies beginning at 1:00 p.m.Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Eastend.To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Pfc Lawrence Gordon, or you may visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.
