.1917 ~ NAYLOR ~ 2013
Evelyn May Naylor passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10th, 2013 at the age of 96 years. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Anthea. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; and her son, Timothy. Evelyn was born in Nottingham, England on May 7th, 1917. She attended the Hollygirt School for Girls along with her four sisters. Evelyn drove an ambulance during the war and worked in Loughborough as a dental assistant for John Coe. Evelyn was a member of the Polaris Mountaineering Club where she met her husband, Ron. They married in 1956, and after a ski honeymoon in Austria, immigrated to Canada. Life in Ottawa was full of new experiences and the arrival of two children. The family moved to Ralston in 1964 for Ron’s work at DRES and to be closer to the mountains. Evelyn and Ron continued to climb in the Rockies and were members of the Alpine Club of Canada. Evelyn explored her talent for art by taking courses and workshops. Her work was shown in art galleries and art shows. She was a member of the Medicine Hat Art Club and the Fibre Arts Society. Living on the prairies offered the opportunity to own a horse. First came Taffy, then Max and finally Missy. She spent many happy hours riding with friends, helping friends gather cattle, and going on trail rides. She was a member of the Four Seasons Saddle Club and was secretary of the Medicine Hat Horse Show for years. At Evelyn’s request there will be no funeral service held. Andrew “Andy” Auld, beloved husband of Lynda “Lyn” Auld of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, December 4th, 2013 at the age of 54 years. .An intimate gathering of close friends and family was recently held in Cook Southland’s Chapel, honouring the life of Dale Stafford. Family truly appreciated the support of those in attendance as was evident while they greeted friends arriving for the funeral. Reverend Scheske ensured the service was just the way Dale would have wanted it, while offering words of comfort through scripture and prayer. The musical selections were some of Dale’s favorites, offering a time for reflection as well as smiles, especially the closing song, “People Are Crazy”.

October 27th, 1918 ~ December 9th, 2013
Our beloved Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, Barbara, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat General Hospital, at the age of 95 years, on Monday, December 9th, 2013. She is survived by her children, Hazel, Gerry, Doreen and Maureen. A very loving Grandma who adored her 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Hazel Reimann’s daughter, Adrianna Guzzo; Gerry Reiman’s daughters – Leanne (Mark) Templeton (son Ezekiel), Lorraine Hibbs (children, Michael, Matthew and Emily) and Angelyn Reimann (Matt Cole); Doreen and Jim Osgood’s children – Jarrett (Dori) Osgood (daughters, Danica and Madison), Jillian (Dennis) Reginato (daughters, Isabella and Emmaleah) and Matthew (Vanessa) Osgood; Maureen and Ib Sorensen’s children – Kaylee (Mike) Terriff (children, Kieran and Kaiah) and Kel (Brittany Wasylenko) Sorensen (children, Lily and Ryker). She is also lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Judy Reiman; son-in-law, Salvatore Guzzo; a dear, special friend, Lucille Wolfer; and a special brother-in-law, Tony Lamoureux. She was blessed to have very loyal and loving nieces, nephews and friends. We are proud our mom left this life loved by so many. She was predeceased by Ernest Reimann; her parents, Henry and Catherine Hoffman; 6 brothers; and 6 sisters. Mom’s happiest times were with her family and friends, enjoying the celebrations and reunions. She loved the challenge of any game you brought to the table. She enjoyed baking and fussing with those special wedding and birthday cakes over those many years. Mom quilted, sewed, knitted and crocheted, always with a plan to make something special for Christmas. She also kept active bowling and floor curling up to last year. Our mom was beautiful and amazing and we loved her so. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Benjamin Schneider. Ben passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 7, 2013 at the age of 93 years. Ben was born July 6, 1920 in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. He served in the Army from 1942 – 1946. Once he returned to Fox Valley he was also known as “The Water Man”, driving school bus, working at the Saskatchewan Minerals Plant all while working on the farm, which always kept him very busy. Ben and Anne moved to Medicine Hat in 1986 and he maintained his active life. Ben will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 65 years, Anne Schneider; sister, Tina Hubbs; children, Lyle (Sandy) Schneider, Denise (Cordell) Verweire; daughter-in-law, Gwen Schneider; grandchildren Scott, Stacey (Gerren), Chase, Simon, Amanda (Andrew), Krystal (Brent), eight great grandchildren and hundreds of nieces and nephews. Ben was predeceased by his eldest son, Keith and his siblings, Louise, Phillip, Adam, David, Kate, Charlie, George, Pauline, Martha, Freida and Dan. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hazel Catherine Calder of Bow Island on Monday, December 9, 2013, at the age of 87 years, beloved wife of the late Ron Calder. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Jim (Kathy) of Lethbridge, Linda (Lothar) Dollfusz of Fort Saskatchewan and Jack (Merry) of Bow Island and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Hazel was born in Lethbridge on July 25, 1926 and raised at Picture Butte. She met Ron and on February 28, 1947 they were married. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Earl Robert Carlson beloved husband of Joyce Ann Carlson at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on December 11, 2013 at the age of 76 years. He was a loving father to his daughter, Mina Nancy Carlson (Rory Sehn) and their children, Brady, Kallen, Aidan; son, Clinton Andrew Carlson of Red Deer, AB., and his children, Torston and Ellia; son Lance E. Carlson of New Westminster, B.C. Earl also leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Irene Cartier and Carol (Olivo) Albrino; brothers-in-law, Victor (Liz) Petersen, John (Rayleen) Petersen, Jim (Linda) Petersen; sister-in-law, Peggy Jean (Floyd) Flemmer as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Einer Perreleus Carlson of Oslo, Norway in 1972 and Ruth Watn (Carlson) of Troneheim, Norway in 1968. Earl was born on February, 13, 1937 in New Westminster, B.C. There he worked as a tugboat operator and in the lumber industry. Earl moved to Calgary in 1963 where he met and married Joyce Petersen in 1964. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1975 to raise their family. Earl’s working career included Western Co-op Fertilizers and Canadian Fertilizers for 18 years. Together, Earl and Joyce owned and operated Carlson’s Art Room between 1979 to 1984 where Earl enjoyed the custom framing portion of the business while Joyce ran the store and balanced the books. Earl loved his home life, football (BC Lions) and took pride in his yard especially after his retirement. Earl will be missed by all who knew him. .This past Monday at Cook’s, family and close friends came together in remembrance of the life of Michael Zajac. Granddaughter, Krystal, prepared a video collage of memories to share with the family and friends in attendance. Deacon Olson ministered to those present through God’s word, offering a message of comfort and hope… special tributes from grandson, Michael and daughter, Theresa, helped those present better understand the kind of man Michael was, and why he will be so dearly missed. Following the service in Medicine Hat, Michael was re-united with his beloved Lucy and laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge.

1943 ~ 2013
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rosemarie Heisler announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, December 9, 2013, at the age of 70 years young. Although she suffered a long time, her passing was quite sudden and unexpected. Rosemarie was born on March 31, 1943, in Fox Valley, SK., and moved to Watson, SK. when she was one year old. At the age of 14, the family moved to Medicine Hat where she resided until her passing. Rosemarie was a proud and beloved mother of six children and a wife to Roger Courterille. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary Anna (1998) & Peter (1992); a sister, Irene (1990); three sons in infancy and her daughter, Connie at the age of seven years. Rosemarie will be lovingly remembered by her son, Gary Bollinger of Kamloops; daughter, Priscilla (Gary) of Medicine Hat; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Rosemarie worked hard all her life in factories, bakeries and nursing homes, whatever job she could find where-ever she was living at the time. She especially took pride in her baking and was considered one of the Best of the Best, no one walked away from her door hungry. Rosemarie was the kindest person to all she knew and loved her family unconditionally. Werner Rudolf Johan Gronemeyer, beloved husband of Leona Gronemeyer, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the age of 73. Werner leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Shanda (Ken) Hunt of Calgary and Diana (Ernest) Baedke of Medicine Hat; four grandchildren, Jessica Baedke, Sydney Baedke, Joshua Baedke, and Kenny Hunt; four brothers, Hans (Louise) Kochan, Willie Gronemeyer, Karl (Laura) Gronemeyer, and Peter (Ruth) Gronemeyer; two sisters, Karla Holgate and Ella Jauerneck, and four sisters-in-law, Loretta Romaniuk, Diana (Duncan) Fisk, Lorraine Dyck, and Gisela Kochan. Werner was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Ella Gronemeyer, his in-laws Henry and Katherine Dyck, one brother, Herman Kochan, brothers-in-law Arnold Jauerneck and Ed Dyck, and one nephew, Bernny Klosner. Werner was born on September 16, 1940 in Bremen, Germany, and came to Canada in 1953 with his family to hoe sugar beets in the Raymond area. Werner apprenticed as a painter and decorator in Lethbridge, and achieved journeyman status in 1962. In December, 1961, he met Leona Dyck when he tripped her at a skating rink, and always enjoyed telling people that she fell hard for him. Werner and Leona were married on June 9, 1962, and welcomed Shanda in July, 1964, and Diana Lee in October, 1966. Health issues forced Werner to stop painting, and he began his career with CP Rail in Lethbridge as a trainman in October, 1966. The family relocated from Lethbridge to Medicine Hat in 1971, where Werner continued his career, retiring from the railroad in 1992 as a locomotive engineer. Werner was extremely sociable, and loved spending time with his neighbours in his backyard and his work friends. He had a sense of sportsmanship and adventure, and loved waterskiing, golfing, fishing, skiing, and riding his motorcycle. Werner’s life took a tragic turn when he sustained a head injury in 1995, and for his remaining years he suffered chronic headaches and related side effects, but he did his best to remain a doting grandfather. Werner would spend hours setting up dominoes in his living room, then laugh when his grandchildren would knock the first one over, causing them all to fall in under a minute. Werner attended the Good Samaritans Day Program for several years after his injury, and our family is grateful to Laura and Elsie for their love and support. In July, 2011, Werner moved into Masterpiece River Ridge, where he enjoyed the beautiful facilities and excellent care.
