OTTAWA – The Ottawa Redblacks have named Tommy Condell as their new offensive co-ordinator.
The 52-year-old veteran CFL coach spent the past four seasons as offensive co-ordinator with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before parting ways with the team on Aug. 7.
He helped lead Hamilton to four Grey Cup appearances (2013, 2014, 2019, 2021), all losses, over two stints with the club.
Condell won a Grey Cup ring as a receivers coach with the Toronto Argonauts in 2017.
This marks Condell’s second time coaching in Ottawa. He served as quarterbacks coach, receivers coach and passing co-ordinator with the defunct Renegades in 2004 and 2005.
The Utica, N.Y., native first coached in the CFL in 1997 as special teams co-ordinator for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Condell replaces Khari Jones, who was fired by the Redblacks Nov. 3 following a 4-14 season.
“The search process for an offensive coordinator was extensive and throughout it, Tommy’s name kept rising to the up of the list,” Redblacks head coach Bob Dyce said in a statement. “Not only were we impressed with Tommy’s history of successful offensive production, but he has a proven ability to win at the professional level and play to the strength of his personnel.
“He has a track record of coming into teams and improving offences, especially through explosive plays and red zone success.”
