QMJHL roundup: Gendron nets five goals as Olympiques thump Eagles

GATINEAU, Que. – Alexis Gendron was a one-man show on Saturday afternoon.

Gendron scored five goals to lead the Gatineau Olympiques past the Cape Breton Eagles 8-4 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. His teammate Riley Kidney chipped in with five assists.

Isaac Belliveau, Antonin Verreault and Zachary Dean had the other goals for the Olympiques (35-12-4-2). Goaltender Emerik Despatie stopped 25 shots.

Samuel Johnson had two goals for the Eagles (21-29-3-1), while Olivier Houde and Luke Patterson had the others. Nicolas Ruccia made 27 saves.

DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. – Felix Hamel and Olivier Ciarlo combined to stop 26 shots to lead Baie-Comeau (24-27-3-2). Hamel finished with 18 saves while Ciarlo stopped all eight shots he faced.

Isaac Duffort, led the way offensively with two goals for the Drakkar.

Jacob Goobie made 26 saves for the Voltiguers (22-26-4-1).

MONCTON, N.B. – Jakub Brabenec scored twice as the visiting Sherbrooke Phoenix defeated the Moncton Wildcats 6-2.

Joshua Roy, Ethan Gauthier, Cole Huckins and Israel Mianscum also scored for the Western Conference-leading Phoenix (37-12-3-2).

Preston Lounsbury scored twice for the Wildcats (25-24-1-2).

SHAWINIGAN, Que. – Tommy Cormier’s goal at 9:32 of the third period proved to be the winner for the Tigres (33-14-1-5).

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Kiefer Lyons’ goal at 13:55 of the second period stood as the winner as the visiting Charlottetown Islanders overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Saint John Sea Dogs 3-2.

Lucas Romeo and Jeremie Biakabutuka also scored for the Islanders (20-27-5-1).

Giuseppe Ianniello and Brady Burns scored for the Sea Dogs (19-32-1-1).

SAGUENEENS 5 FOREURS 3

VAL-D’OR, Que. – The Chicoutimi Sagueneens spotted the host Val-d’Or Foreurs a 2-0 lead then stormed back to post a 5-3 victory.

Alex Morin scored twice for the Sagueneens (28-25-2-0), while Fabrice Fortin, Felix Bedard and Maxim Masse netted singles for the winners. Romain Rodzinski had four assists for the Sagueneens.

Nathan Brisson, David Doucet and William Provost scored for the Foreurs (21-31-2-0).
