The Medicine Hat U16 Mustangs won ringette gold over the weekend.
The Mustangs took first place at the Silver Ring tournament in Edmonton, going undefeated en route to the gold.
They opened the tournament with a 4-3 win Friday over Cochrane.
Leighton Wright scored three times, Jayna Allchurch had a goal and an assist and Tia Van Maarion had two helpers. Emma Pinnell made 20 saves for the win.
They carried the momentum into Saturday morning, beating Sherwood Park 4-2. Margot Kerr had a pair of goals, Ravyn Lehr notched a goal and an assist and Sloane Berstad had a solo tally. Reese Tabor had two assists, Sophia Smith made 17 saves.
The U16 Mustangs punched a ticket to the finals with a 4-2 win later in the day over Edmonton.
Wright scored all four goals for the Mustangs, Pinnell and Smith split duties in net, with a combined 32 saves.
The Mustangs had a rematch in the finals, beating Cochrane 8-3 for the gold.
Wright had a pair of goals and an assist, and Kerr had a goal and two assists. Aviana Velichko found twine with a goal, and Lehr worked a goal and an assist. Both Allchurch and Van Maarion had solo markers. Pinnell made 22 saves to clinch the win.
U14
The Medicine Hat U14 Mustangs also attended the Edmonton Silver ring tournament, returning with a silver.
The Mustangs started the tournament against Edmonton, winning 12-10. Breanna Lanuk and Lacey Gibney both had a hat trick. Brea Butterfield and Kassidy Etienne each had a pair of goals, and both Ally Martin and Haven Ward had a goal.
The Mustangs played Saskatoon in their second game, recording a 9-2 win. Lanuk recorded her second hat trick of the tournament. Gibney and Olivia Ulbrecht each recorded a pair of goals, with Martin, Etienne and Rielle Forsyth all finding the back of the net.
Medicine Hat defeated St. Albert by a score of 5-3 to put themselves into the finals. Lanuk and Etienne each scored twice, Gibney rounded out the offence with a goal.
The Mustangs faced St. Albert in the final for a rematch, ultimately falling 7-3. Lanuk scored twice, Martin tallied the Mustang’s third goal.
Dannalee Sawchuk and Jacqueline LeBlanc shared the time between the pipes over the weekend. Sawchuk had a 2-0, LeBlanc went 1-1.
U19
The Medicine Hat U19 Mustangs picked up a pair of road wins over the Calgary NW-3 on Sunday.
They kicked the day off with a 9-4 win. Ryleigh Jackiw scored 2:34 into the game and the Mustangs continued the pressure, leading 6-3 at the half.
Hannah Thompson led the way offensively with five goals while Mackenzie Tindall added a pair, with singles coming from Jackiw and Ava Allchurch.
Brooklyn Thomas tallied three assists, standing tall on the blue line.
They carried the momentum into a 13-2 win later in the day against Calgary.
Jackiw again opened the scoring, tickling twine 26 seconds into the contest.
Jackiw and Erika Want led the offence with four goals each. Tindall had a hat trick, Thompson added a pair and Allchurch set up four goals.
Kyree Stern-Rebmann stood tall in net for both games.
With the victories on Sunday, the U19 Mustangs (8-0) remain undefeated in Chinook
League play as they now share a spot at the top of the league with Calgary NW-1.
Ed Horvath tourney next weekend
Medicine Hat’s nine ringette teams will defend home ice next weekend during the annual Ed Horvath Tournament.
The 40-team tournament gets underway Friday, Dec. 6 and wraps up Sunday, Dec. 9 with games played at the Kinplex, Moose Rec Centre and the Big Marble Go Centre.
