The Medicine Hat Cubs had no holiday rust to shake off this weekend.

The Cubs swept their first two games following the HJHL’s holiday break, with a 5-1 win Saturday over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings and a 6-1 victory Sunday over the Coaldale Copperheads.

Medicine Hat had a rounded offence in Saturday’s win with Kyle Woolridge notching two goals, and Josh Aitken and Carson Christianson each scoring a goal and an assist. Jesse Klimosko had a goal of his own and Tyler Wakelam made 27 saves in net. The Cubs outshot Strathmore 33-28.

In Sunday’s win, Gerret Harty made hats fall from the sky with his first hat trick as a Cub. Darnell Glasgow had a goal and two assists and Caleb Garrecht added a goal and assist of his own.

Keynan Cairns found the back of the net with a solo marker and Josh Drefs added three assists to the tally. Dominik Jagielski was in net for the Cubs, stopping 26 shots as Medicine Hat outshot Coaldale 28-27.

The Cubs (19-4-3) remain in second place of the South division, two points ahead of Coaldale with a game in hand. Medicine Hat heads down the highway Friday to face the league-leading Okotoks Bisons. The Cubs host the High River Flyers on Saturday for a 6 p.m. contest.
