Monarchs coming off winning weekend at home

The Medicine Hat U18 Moose Monarchs look to build off a positive weekend in the city.

The Monarchs split a two games against the U18 Billings Royals on Saturday before beating them on Sunday to win the weekend.

Medicine Hat opened the three-game set with a 9-5 victory. Evan Morrison and Jeff Bullock each had two hits in the win and each added two runs and a RBI to the Monarchs offence. Trevin Ressler picked up two RBIs on one hit.

Morrison started the contest for the Moose, striking out 10 batters in six innings of work. Koby Eskestrand took over and pitched the final innings, registering one strikeout.

The Monarchs dropped the second Saturday contest against the Royals, falling 11-3. Aidan Eckersall led the offence with two hits and a RBI. Kyle Woolridge started the game for Medicine Hat and struck out three batters while pitching 4.1 innings. Parker Hunt recorded two outs, one being a strikeout, before Waylan Watson took over on the mound for 1.1 innings of work with a punch out. Ryler Straarup recorded the final two outs of the game.

Medicine Hat wrapped up the weekend with a shutout, beating the Royals 2-0 on Sunday morning. Woolridge picked up the offence with two hits, Bullock and Morrison scored the Monarchs two runs. Cade Harrison picked up the win on the mound with four strikeouts in six innings pitched. Eskestrand worked the final inning of the game, striking out one.

The Monarchs (9-6) are back in action this weekend with a two-game set at home against the Kalispell Lakers.
