The Medicine Hat Tigers started their busy weekend off with a bang. A four-goal third period propelled the Tigers to a road win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday. It was the first of three games for Medicine Hat over the weekend as they have a home-and-home series with Calgary, hosting the Hitmen on Saturday before hitting the road on Sunday. Medicine Hat opened the scoring with three straight goals in the first period. Brendan Lee had the first goal of the contest, scoring 6:27 into the first frame. Reid Andresen had the lone assist on Lee’s 28th goal of the year. The Tigers continued the offence with two goals in two minutes, as Hunter St. Martin knocked in a loose puck before Dallon Melin scored on a give-and-go play with Cayden Lindstrom. Kurtis Smythe had the assist on St. Martin’s seventh goal of the year, Owen MacNeil had the second assist on Melin’s 14th of the year. Edmonton got themselves on the board with 4:48 left in the first period on Ethan MacKenzie’s first goal of the season. They carried the momentum into the second period as Cole Miller scored for the only goal of the period. Krebs opened the scoring 2:54 with his first of three in the final frame. Tyler MacKenzie had the lone assist on Krebs shorthanded goal, the 12th of the year for the Tigers. Just over 12 minutes later Krebs struck again with Oasiz Wiesblatt registering the assist. Cayden Lindstrom got on the board 1:03 later, with Brendan Lee and Brayden Boehm getting the assists on Lindstrom’s 18th of the year. Friday night marked Boehm’s first game back in the Tigers lineup in 11 contests since suffering an upper body injury in practice. With 36 seconds left in the game Krebs completed his first WHL hat trick with a power play goal, giving him a goal at even strength, on the man advantage and shorthanded. Shane Smith and Lee had the assists on Krebs eighth of the season. Evan May was between the pipes for the Tigers, turning aside 20 shots for his fifth win of the season. Across the ice from him, Kolby Hay had 22 saves. The Tigers (28-26-8-1) are back in action Saturday at 7 p.m. against Calgary. 11
