Mavericks fall 7-2 Thursday in Brooks

By James Tubb on June 30, 2022.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks were one bad half inning away from a win Thursday night.

The Mavericks gave up seven runs on seven hits in the first half inning to the Brooks Bombers who carried the early lead into a 7-2 win Thursday in Brooks.

Medicine Hat pitcher Mathew Krall was charged with the loss as he started the game for the Mavericks, allowing all seven runs before Zach Robinson took over from the bullpen.

The loss Thursday marks the Mavericks second straight, as they entered the contest on the heels of a 6-0 defeat to the Okotoks Dawgs Wednesday at Athletic Park.

While Robinson held the Bombers at bay, the Mavericks slowly made their offensive presence felt. Centre Fielder Braden DeSonia got Medicine Hat on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the season. The Mavericks struck again in the sixth frame when first baseman Hunter Cooper scored on an RBI single from shortstop Nate Ade.

Cooper had. two out double and moved up to third base on a balk from the Bombers pitcher.

On the mound, Robinson had himself a strong outing, his second as a Maverick. The Kamloops product struck out three batters while only allowing two hits in his seven and a third innings of work.

The Mavericks weren’t able to scrap across anymore runs as the Bombers picked up the 7-2 win.

Medicine Hat(9-15) is back in action Friday when they host the Swift Current 57’s for some Canada Day action at Athletic Park. That game gets underway at 7:05 p.m.
