Monarchs sweep weekend games

The Medicine Hat 18U Monarchs continued their winning ways this weekend, sweeping all four games against the Calgary Cardinals.

The Monarchs beat the Cardinals 17-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Trevin Ressler picked up the win on the mound with seven strikeouts in four innings of work. Dylan Lefer threw one inning of relief with a strikeout to secure the win.

Offensively, Evan Morrison had three hits and one RBI while Payton Eddy had three RBIs, and Kayden Hleucka hit a home run in the fourth inning to go alongside his three RBIs in the game.

In the Monarchs’ second contest Saturday, they continued the offensive onslaught with a 12-1 win. Koby Eskestrand had the win on the rubber with four innings of work with a strikeout while only allowing two hits. Lefler again threw one inning of relief with a strikeout.

Kyle Woolridge led the Monarchs offensively with two hits, with nine other players registering one hit each.

Sunday the Monarchs kept the offence flowing with a 14-3 win over Calgary.

Hleucka led the Monarchs with five RBIs on two hits and a walk. Graceon Little had two RBIs of his own on two hits. Jeff Bullock, Little, Woolridge, Lefler and Hleucka each had multiple hits in the win.

Hleucka was credited with the win on the mound as well, as he notched three strikeouts in his two innings of work. Straarup started the Sunday morning contest and had six strikeouts in three innings before Fischer Haysom took over and struck out the side in his one inning of work.

The Monarchs’ rolled back the offence in their final game of the weekend, beating the Cardinals 6-1.

Eddy picked up the win on the mound while only allowing one hit with two strikeouts in two innings of work. Hayden Hall and Bullock both threw two innings of relief with one and two strikeouts respectively. Woolridge had the save with one inning pitched, notching a strikeout.

Little, Hleucka and Straarup each had two RBIs in the win.

The Monarchs (12-1) are back in action Saturday when they face Webber Academy for a double header. They play host to Webber Sunday at Jeffries park for a double header at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
