Hat High Hawks split basketball playoff openers

The Hat High Hawks varsity basketball teams got their playoffs underway Tuesday night.

The Hawks senior girls, who finished their season ranked third in the South zone, opened the night with a battle against Catholic Central that they lost 51-44. Abby Watson and Andee Feko led the Hawks offensively with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Catholic Central led 31-20 at the half and pulled out the win despite Hat High outscoring them 22-20 in the second half of the contest. The varsity girls are back in playoff action tonight. They take on Chinook at Catholic Central in a win or go home game.

The Hat High varsity boys, who finished their campaign with a record of 6-6, were able to pull off a comeback win against the Raymond Comets, rallying from being down 19 at the half to win 98-97.

The comeback was led by a 33-point fourth quarter that saw Connor Appell score eight points.

Sebastián Perez and Jeremy NG led the Hawks offensively in the win with 27 and 22 points respectively.

The senior Hawks boys team continues their playoff run tonight when they head to Magrath for a semifinal contest.
