Rattlers women’s basketball announces new signing

By MEDICINE HAT NEWS on January 19, 2022.

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers women’s basketball team is continuing to bolster its lineup for the 2022-23 season.

The Rattlers announced via their Instagram Tuesday they have signed Alia Boulanger from Paul Kane High School in St. Albert.

Boulanger said in the College’s post she chose to sign with the Rattlers for the upcoming Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season because of the uplifting environment the coach and players create.

“Also, to get a change in scenery and experience life down south for a while,” Boulanger said.

She will studying kinesiology while playing for MHC.

Rattlers women’s basketball coach Clayton Nielsen said in the post Boulanger, like the Rattlers’ other signings for next season, came to their Christmas camp and made an impression.

“Alia came to our Christmas camp and immediately showed a strong work ethic and the ability to play with high energy,” Neilsen said. “She moves the ball well and pushed it up the court, two great characteristics that a point guard should possess. We are very excited that she chose us and her commitment to move from St. Albert to play here at MHC.”

Boulanger is the third player signed by the Rattlers in January for next season. Medicine Hat added Bryanne Jones from Taber and Brynn Bremner from Brooks earlier in the month.

The Rattlers women’s basketball team is coming off two wins this weekend and is in action Friday vs. SAIT. That match gets underway at 8 p.m. at the Big Marble Go Centre.
