Minor Hockey Roundup: U15 AA Tigers split weekend

South East Athletic Club’s U15 AA Tigers split their weekend at home with a 9-2 win over the Central Alberta Selects on Saturday and a 6-2 loss to the Wheatland Warriors on Sunday.

Kingston Chisholm and Randen Collier both had two goals and two assists Saturday, while Leighton Verishine had two goals with one assist, Austin Murphy had a goal and two helpers, and Easton Kurpjuweit added three assists.

Owen Gustafson and Brennan Finke rounded out the scoring with a goal and an assist each, and Kayne Wright stopped 31 shots for the win.

Ty Wasyluk had a goal an assist Sunday, while Collier had two assists and Chisholm added a goal.

The Tigers (12-6-3) are back on the ice Friday in Lethbridge to face the Hurricanes.

U18 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds U18 AA squad collected a 6-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday at the Kinplex.

Joshua Drefs had two goals, while Zach Hauck added a goal and two assists to lead the offence. Gavin Smith had two helpers, while Brady Mahar, Joseph Hackett and Caleb Garrecht added individual tallies.

Kaiden Morin stopped 28 shots for the win.

The Hounds (11-4-6) are on the road Saturday to face the West Central Tigers.

U16 AAA boys

SEAC’s U16 AAA squad picked up a 4-3 overtime win against the Calgary Northstars on the road Sunday.

Chance Loke scored 40 seconds into overtime to earn the win, while Quade Vanderspruit, Austin Watts and Jesse Klimosko added individual goals.

Kaige Schafer stopped 36 shots for the win.

The Tigers (11-11-0) return home to host the Red Deer North Stars on Saturday at the Hockey Hounds Rec Centre.

U15 AAA boys

SEAC’s U15 AAA Tigers opened 2022 with a pair of losses on the road this weekend, 9-5 to the Airdrie Xtreme Saturday and 4-2 to the NWCAA Flames Sunday.

Davin Torgerson led Saturday’s offence with a pair of goals, while Theron Bensler, Hudson Gainer and Kieran Wyrostok rounded out the scoring.

Adler Ames stopped 33 shots in the loss.

Gainer and Colby Gulliver netted Sunday’s tallies, while Kolter Gans stopped 30 shots in net.

The Tigers (9-11-2) return to the ice Jan. 22 to face the Bisons in Calgary.

U15 AA girls

The Southern Express U15 AA team rallied to a 7-2 victory over the Calgary Fire Red on Saturday.

Julie Barrow led the Express with a hat trick, while Jayda Becker had two goals and an assist, Jaylee Skog had one of each and Cambelle Gross rounded out the scoring.

Taya Christie stopped 27 shots for the win.

The Express (10-4-2) will be in Medicine Hat Saturday to host the Olds Grizzlies.

U13 AA boys

The Medicine Hat Hounds Orange U13 AA squad went 1-1 over the weekend with a 6-1 win over the Foothills Bisons on Saturday and an 8-4 loss to the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday.

Brogan Verishine led Saturday’s offence with a hat trick and two assists for good measure, while Chase Droeske had a goal and two helpers, and Myla Motz had two assists.

Chase Murphy and Kian Lang rounded out the scoring, while Bryden Tschritter stopped 14 pucks in net.

Lang added two more goals Sunday, while Verishine had a goal and an assist, Droeske had two helpers and Gavin Perry added a goal, but it wasn’t enough to keep Orange in the win column.

Caleb Matheson stopped 23 shots in the loss.

The Hounds Black squad was also in action this weekend, drawing event at 3-3 with the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday.

Ilya Khazov netted Medicine Hat’s first goal of the night, then Rhyder Arnold and Caleb Whyte-Duheme scored back-to-back goals in the third to skate away with the tie.

MacInnis Harvey-Zenk stopped 21 shots between the pipes.

The Hounds Black (10-8-1) return to action Saturday in Olds against the Grizzlies, while Orange (5-12-3) will face the Bow Valley Timberwolves on the road that afternoon.

U13 A girls

Medicine Hat’s U13 A girls squad split the weekend with a 6-5 loss to Airdrie Saturday and a 4-0 win over Stettler Sunday.

Teagan Torgerson led Saturday’s offence with a hat trick, while Morgan Gage had a goal and an assist and Alyna Vossler added a goal of her own.

Jordan Karasek stopped 20 shots in net.

Medicine Hat rebounded Sunday, with Katie Hilton stopping 16 shots for the shutout. Sydney Broesky scored a goal and added an assist, while Neveah Ross had two helpers. Brooke Watts, Aviana Velichko and Torgerson rounded out the scoring.

Medicine Hat (5-3-1) will be in Ralston Friday to face Picture Butte.
