Medicine Hat College is in the market for a new soccer coach. The Rattlers announced Tuesday morning they are searching for a new coach following the resignation of Rob Cavicchia, effective March 26. Cavicchia served as head coach of the men’s and women’s soccer and futsal squads and executive director of Medicine Hat Soccer Association – and a release from MHC indicates they will be looking for someone to fill those same shoes. “The position will be filled in partnership with the Medicine Hat Soccer Association and the new hire will also serve as executive director for the organization in addition to coaching the Rattlers soccer and futsal squads,” reads the release. Cavicchia – a Toronto product who joined the Rattlers in May of 2019 – said in the release the decision to part ways with MHC did not come easily. “I would like to thank both MHC and MHSA for the opportunity to work in such a wonderful community,” Cavicchia says in the release. “The decision to leave has been an extremely difficult one to make for me and my family. From the moment I arrived in Medicine Hat it has felt like home and I will truly miss all the amazing people I have had the pleasure of working with. “I wish both organizations all the best in the future.” While the search for a replacement begins immediately, MHC manager of sport and wellness Terry Ballard says Cavicchia’s impact will be felt by soccer in Medicine Hat for some time to come. “Coach Cavicchia had a big impact on the Rattlers soccer program during his time at MHC,” Ballard says in the release. “His leadership and experience will be missed by our college community and we wish him and his family well.” 10
