If there was a silver lining to the Medicine Hat under-16 Riptide’s second-place finish in Cochrane, it was how the Gas City ringette team gave the eventual champions all they could handle.

A 5-4 loss to the Calgary Northwest Forte in the Bob Campbell Classic final came on the heels of a 9-6 round robin loss, a sign they were oh so close to getting over the hump.

Marley Rose had two goals in the final for Medicine Hat, with Kylie Kallenberger and Marin Sinclair adding the others.

Riptide went 2-2, with an 8-3 win over Sherwood Park and a 6-3 victory against the AC Thunder. Jena Harty was the goalie all weekend long.

Open

Call it bus legs, but there was a clear slow start to Sunday’s doubleheader in Vulcan for the Medicine Hat Force.

Meeting the Calgary Raiders for a neutral site set of games, Force trailed 3-1 after the first period but went on to outscore Calgary 12-3 thereafter, settling for a 5-5 tie in the first game and racking up an 8-1 win in the second.

Amanda Beaudoin had a hat trick in the opener and two more in the second. Jenna McDonnell and Kennedy Wilson each had three on the day, while Ali Stanke and Darci Dynes added singles. Jordyn Clarke was in net.

Under-19

In Bassano Saturday, the under-19 Mighty Ducks split a doubleheader with the Calgary Northwest Wild.

Medicine Hat won the opener 6-4, getting a hat trick from Amanda Robinson and single goals from Sheridyn Herman, Hanna Heidel and Bree Becker.

The Wild won the second game 6-5, despite two goals from Herman and singles from Robinson, Ashlyn Seale and Kennedy Lanigan.

The Ducks play tonight, 8:30 p.m. at Hockey Hounds against the open-division Smash in an exhibition contest.

Under-12

Signs of improvement finally showed up on the scoreboard for the under-12 B Blackout, who got their first regular season wins Sunday on home ice.

Blackout beat the Indus Lightning 6-3 and 8-3. Hard work in practices paid off just in time for the holiday break.

Ryleigh Jackiw and Kensington Provost had two goals each in the opener, with Leighton Wright and Breanna Rugg rounding out the scoring. Sadie Berstad was in net.

Jackiw had four, with Wright, Rugg, Sutton Provost and Kensington Provost scoring the others in the second game. Emerson Clausen was in net.

Under-10

The under-10 Wolfpack swept a doubleheader over the Airdrie Yellowjackets Saturday, with scores of 9-4 and 10-3.

Breanna Lanuk was the first to score in the opener, while Addison Mastel got the Wolfpack on the board in the second.
