Cubs rebound to split weekend

By Medicine Hat News on November 18, 2019.

The Medicine Hat Cubs shook off Saturday’s 4-3 loss to the Red Deer Vipers and rallied to split their weekend road trip with a 5-1 victory over the Stettler Lightning Sunday.

The up-and-down weekend leaves the Cubs sitting fourth in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Southern Division standings with a 10-4-2 record.

Brayden Anderson opened Sunday’s scoring, then Chandler Aleman made it 2-0 later in the opening frame. Cooper Hilworth added another in the second before Spencer Chapman extended the lead to four goals entering the third.

Stettler pushed back with a shorthanded tally, but Mason Fischer quickly responded for Medicine Hat to push the game out of reach.

Levi Schlosser led the Cubs with two goals in Saturday’s loss, while Fischer added a goal and both Joshua Schafer and Hilworth had two assists.

Jace Paarup, Cole Hardman, Rylan Burns and Matias Letwin all scored for Red Deer.

The Cubs return to the Kinplex Saturday to host the Lomond Lakers at 2:15 p.m.
