Medicine Hat Cubs captain Tavin Stadnicki fires a shot on goal during his team's Heritage Junior Hockey League game against the Red Deer Vipers at the Kinplex on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019.

For the first time in a month, the Medicine Hat Cubs didn’t garner a point.

On Sunday at the Kinplex, the junior B hockey team fell 5-2 to the visiting Red Deer Vipers.

Justin Paarup sealed his hat trick with an empty-netter, while Jarvis Gaume and Easton Roberts also scored past Cubs netminder Dawsen Savage.

Mackenzie Fritzler and Brayden Anderson were the only ones to beat Dawson Weatherill, who made 34 saves in the Vipers net. Shots were 36-34 in the Cubs’ favour.

Tavin Straub of Medicine Hat and Matias Letwin of Red Deer ended their nights early, both getting game misconducts after fighting in the second period. Red Deer went 3-for-8 with the power play, while Medicine Hat only managed one goal with the man advantage in nine chances.

Red Deer improved to 6-5, third in the Heritage League’s Northern Division, while Medicine Hat is now 7-3-2, fourth in the Southern Division.

The Cubs are in Ponoka Saturday and Rocky Mountain House Sunday. They’re not back at home until Nov. 23.
