Medicine Hat ringette teams kept busy this past weekend, with a few earning wins on home ice.
The under-19 Mighty Ducks were among those, hosting the Cochrane Rockies for a doubleheader Saturday. After earning a 5-3 win, they finished the twin bill with a 3-3 tie.
Jada Harper, Hanna Heidel, Mackenzie Broydell, Jessica Heidel, and Allison Mason scored in the opener, while Heidel had a pair and Amanda Robinson the other in the tie.
The Ducks and open A-division Smash are in Regina this weekend for a tournament.
Under-16
Also at home was the Matrix under-16 B team, facing the Bowview Blazers twice.
A goal with 26 seconds remaining gave the home side a 3-2 win in the opener, though it wasn’t reported who scored it.
Rheagyn Heinrichs earned the win in net.
Bowview responded from the loss with a better effort in the second game of the day. The Blazers won 9-2, with only Jaelyn Seiwert and Leah Jetter scoring for Medicine Hat.
Under-10
Wins and losses may come and go, but the under-10 Wolfpack from Medicine Hat and their opposition from Lethbridge accomplished something exceptionally rare on the weekend – neither team took a penalty in either of their two games.
At Rolling Hills, the Lethbridge side won the first game 9-5, the Wolfpack took the second 5-1, but the most surprising statistic was the lack of penalty minutes.
“I’m so proud of the team,” said Hat head coach Janelle Want in a press release. “They were sharp on defence and the forward lines passed effectively and worked really well together. Awesome team!”
Offensive highlights included Lacey Gibney’s hat trick and Brea Butterfield’s two goals in the opening-game loss.
