Ross, Canada beat Dominican Rep. at World Cup qualifier

Redcliff’s Kaitlyn Ross opened her campaign with Team Canada at the COPABE Women’s Baseball World Cup qualifier on an 11-1 mercy rule victory over the Dominican Republic on Sunday morning in Aguascalientes, Mex.

Ross started at catcher for Canada in the five-inning victory, though her individual statistics were not available by press time.

Fruitvale, B.C.’s Alli Schroder picked up the complete game victory, allowing one run on three hits in the game, according to a post from Baseball Canada. Schroder also walked five, beaned one and struck out five.

Eight members of Canada’s starting lineup reached base, while seven crossed the plate in the victory.

Canada returns to the diamond in Aguascalientes today at 1:30 p.m. to take on Nicaragua.
