With one round left in the Alberta Women’s Amateur golf tournament, Medicine Hat’s Becky Martin is exactly where she wants to be: in first place.
The Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club member shot a 3-over par 74 Wednesday in the second round at The Ranch near Edmonton, tied with two other players entering today’s final 18 holes.
Calgary’s Taylor Stone posted the best score in the 41-player field Wednesday, an even-par 71 that included an eagle on the par-4 ninth. Another Calgarian, Mackenzie Baustad, is also tied for the lead at 5-over through 36 holes.
Martin had two birdies, offset by a double bogey and three bogeys. Her spot on the leaderboard is hardly firm. Aside from the three-way tie, there are nine other players within five shots of the lead.
Only the top three get a spot at nationals in Red Deer later this month as part of the Alberta team.
