The Medicine Hat Sun Devils are novice division champions in the Southern Alberta Lacrosse League with an exclamation point.
The Devils No. 2 novice team went 3-0 this past weekend at Lethbridge in playoffs, culminating in a 10-4 win over the host Cudas Sunday afternoon.
They also earned 12-2 and 11-4 wins over Cudas teams on the weekend, following up a perfect 15-0 regular season.
In the final, Torren Zentner had four goals, Illya Khazov two while singles came from Everett Ward, Logan Neuls, Dane Friedt and Luke Richards. Zentner was credited with 15 goals on the weekend.
The Sun Devils No. 1 team went 3-12 in the regular season and 0-3 in playoffs, dropping decisions to Lethbridge (12-5 and 9-6) and Brooks (9-6).
Midget
The midget Sun Devils registered an 8-3 loss to Lethbridge this past Wednesday in Taber. Josh Drefs had two goals in a losing cause.
Bantam
The bantam Sun Devils hosted league playoffs this past weekend, with one team winning the title, 6-3 over Lethbridge Sunday.
Jayden Richards had two goals while Houston Eakins, Daylen VanDorp, Brennin Wereley and Wyatt Dreger had the others.
The other bantam Devils won bronze, though no scores were reported.
Peewee
The peewee Sun Devils’ season took an abrupt turn Sunday morning.
After sailing through most of their playoff weekend in Lethbridge and Taber with four wins against one loss, they dropped a 7-2 semifinal to the host Cudas. Brolin Vanderspruit and Hunter Skrove scored but the team did wind up third place.
The team’s highlight of the weekend was a 13-12 double overtime win over Claresholm, with Skrove netting the game-winner. They also beat Lethbridge teams 11-1, 6-2 and 5-2, while their round robin loss came 10-2 to Brooks.
