Alysha Stratton entered Saturday night ranked second-last in the Medicine Hat Auto Racing Association’s hobby stock class.
Well, she’s moving on up in a hurry.
Stratton piloted the No. 14 car to a division win on a night the underdogs showed they’ve still got plenty of bite at the Medicine Hat Speedway.
Stratton was followed at the finish line by Jake Sissons, who was only one spot ahead of her, and Rob Gale who opened the night in fifth spot.
Mitch Stovka is hardly someone you’d be surprised to see take a checkered flag, but a rough first race night had him back in the elite street stock standings before winning Saturday. Alf Hieb was second and stands to take over top spot in the driver standings, while Thomas Payne was third.
In the Davis GMC Renegade Trucks, it was Curtis Bigelow with the win ahead of Jason Woicichowski and Toni Lavigne. Woicichowski was second in the series opener May 25 while Bigelow was third.
Finally, in the Busy Bee Auto Rumblebees, Kevin Hieb denied series leader Emma Fitzpatrick of a third straight win while Ben Boksteyn was third.
Next race night is July 6 with elite, hobby and Rumblebees on the menu, along with a proposed media race.
